Can an insurance company deny my personal injury claim?

Yes, insurance companies can deny claims, but a denial is not the end of the road. Insurers deny claims for various reasons: disputed liability (they argue their insured is not at fault), policy exclusions (the incident is not covered under the policy terms), late notice (the claim was not reported within the required timeframe), coverage lapse (the policy was not in force at the time of the accident), recorded statement inconsistencies, or lack of supporting documentation. When a claim is denied, you have several options: request the insurer provide the specific reasons for denial in writing; provide additional evidence or documentation addressing the stated reason for denial; hire an attorney to challenge the denial; file a complaint with your state's insurance commissioner; or file a lawsuit directly against the at-fault party. An experienced personal injury attorney can often overcome denials by presenting compelling evidence, challenging the legal basis of the denial, or converting the dispute into a lawsuit that creates significantly more pressure on the insurer.
